In the warmth of his home, young Conrad gets ready to begin a long day's work in the fields, planting, harvesting, tending and watering the crops. It is exhausting work for one person. In the afternoon, if he still has the strength, he will go to the market to resupply, politely and wearily declining inconsequential invitations. With any luck, all his effort will be rewarded.
